The Direct Archdiocesan District (DAD) Clergy-Laity Congress convened with prayerful solemnity and forward-looking purpose on Saturday, April 25th at the Greek Orthodox Church of our Saviour in Rye, New York with 175 clergy and lay delegates in attendance.
Opening with an address by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, who called the faithful to bold vision and faithful stewardship in the life of the Church. Emphasizing the transformative power of lived faith, His Eminence noted, “When we practice our faith, and when we experience the mysteries of God through our profound and magnificent symbols, we are changed on the inside,” underscoring that such transformation “creates stable and strong parishes” capable of both welcoming newcomers and sustaining the faithful.
Key addresses followed from DAD leadership including Vice Chair Mrs. Stephanie Clark and Chancellor Rev. Protopresbyter Elias Villis, as well as His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos representing the Department of Religious Education. Additional remarks were offered by Archdiocesan Council Treasurer Mrs. Elaine Allen and Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Lambakis, President of Hellenic College Holy Cross School of Theology, alongside updates on the St. Michael’s Home expansion and parish planned giving initiatives.

The afternoon session focused on strategic growth, transparency, and innovation, including presentations on parish safety and security and emerging technologies, led by Mr. Theo Nikolakis, Director of National Ministries and CIO. Drawing on the upcoming national Clergy Laity theme, His Eminence further exhorted the faithful with the scriptural call, “Let us rise and build. And their hands were strengthened for the good work,” urging delegates to strengthen the spiritual foundations of their communities.
Delegates received a presentation of the 2025 preliminary financials and the approval of the 2027 Archdiocesan District Budget by Mr. Theodore Germanakos, District Treasurer. Comprehensive dialogue was fostered through a question-and-answer session covering key ministry reports, including youth engagement, religious education, outreach, and philanthropic efforts. The Congress also highlighted the upcoming Servant Leadership Awards Banquet on June 9, 2026, presented by Mrs. Christine Balidis. An introduction of the Bulletin Builder initiative by Rev. Father Jim Kordaris was offered, reinforcing the District’s commitment to effective communication and vibrant parish life.
The DAD Philoptochos Assembly also convened in conjunction with the Congress, bringing together 75 dedicated representatives from parishes across the District in a shared commitment to philanthropy, compassionate service, and the strengthening of their ministries. A meaningful moment from Saturday highlighted this mission, as Archdiocesan District Philoptochos President Irene Hotzoglou presented a $5,000 donation to Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Lambakis of Hellenic College Holy Cross School of Theology. A tangible expression of support for faith, education, and the future of our Church.
