One of this year’s workshops at the Clergy-Laity Congress, presented on July 2, 2024, was “Who is the Psaltis? Why Do We Need Him? What is His Role?” led by Archon Music Instructor Georgios Theodoridis. The workshop explored the role of the Psaltis, or Cantor, as an integral coworker in the liturgical services and sacraments. Since various duties of the Cantor have remained largely unknown, the workshop guided participants through the official role, and clerical position of the Psaltis, as well as the multiple services to clergy and laity that the Psaltis renders. Attendees gained meaningful insights into the challenging work of Cantors, and the vital role that they play in the liturgical life of the Church.
