In the second episode of “The Black American Orthodox Experience” (season 3), a collaboration of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Orthodox Christian Network, Rev. Samuel Davis celebrates the stories of pioneers, heroes, and freedom fighters. The Maliotis Cultural Center presents a compelling exploration of the Black American Philhellenes, highlighting the deep historical connections between Black and Greek Americans. Rev. Samuel Davis delves into the lives of Jacob Williams, William Scarborough, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Archimandrite Raphael Morgan, showcasing their admiration for Hellenic Culture and their contributions to the Black and Greek American communities. Through their stories we celebrate a shared legacy of resilience, cultural appreciation, and the enduring bonds that unite these communities in the pursuit of freedom, knowledge, and faith. Rev. Samuel urges us to join the celebration of the lives and contributions to Hellenic culture and the striving of Greek Americans and the Orthodox Faith and Tradition.
The Black American Orthodox Experience is a program focused on Orthodox missions in America—insights, challenges, and how we can reach (and are reaching) members of Black, Indigenous, and other communities with the Church of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to feature honest and informative conversations about what the Great Commission looks like in modern America within a historical and cultural context.
