Dr. Thomas C. Lelon, former President of Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology passed away yesterday, May 18, 2025. Dedicated to advancing the Greek Orthodox Church in America for more than half a century, Dr. Lelon was the first layperson to serve as President of HCHC, holding the position from 1976-1986; he was also a longtime Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Upon learning of the passing of Dr. Lelon, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America remarked, “Having just celebrated Commencement at our beloved school, our greatest desire is that every graduate be the kind of servant-leader Dr. Thomas Lelon was to Hellenic College Holy Cross for decades. All of us should strive to honor his memory through our service to the Church, to the school and to our brothers and sisters in Christ with as much faith as Dr. Lelon demonstrated in his lifetime.”
The funeral service will take place at the Holy Cross Chapel on the campus of HCHC on May 28, at 11:30 AM and is open to the public.
